WWDC 2019 June 3-7 in San Jose

In its 30th year, Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference will be held in San Jose this year at the McEnery Convention Center.

Every year Apple hosts its WWDC conference in June for developers. Each week-long WWDC conference offers insight into the growth and changes of Apple’s platforms and new product releases, while providing developers with in-depth learning on site via hands-on labs, technical sessions and guest speakers. Apple kicks off every WWDC with a keynote session that is live streamed worldwide with major announcements that set the stage for the week’s events.

As of March 2019, Apple has stated that there are more than 1.4 billion devices now running iOS, macOS, watchOS or tvOS. The 2019 conference like prior events in recent years, offers tickets to developers by a random lottery selection given the enormous demand and the limited number of seats. You can also live-stream the conference on the WWDC app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV and through the Apple Developer website. Apple offered 350 scholarships to this year’s event.

What We Can Expect at WWDC 2019

Every year, Apple releases updated versions of its iOS and Mac software platforms. This year we expect Apple to provide an iOS 13 and a macOS 10.15. Apple may also demonstrate its new software upgrades on its recently released new product line - iPad Air and updated iMac Pros.

iOS 13

When Apple introduces iOS 13, the latest version of iOS, the company will bring some design changes such as a new Home screen for the iPhone and iPad, dark mode, new Mail features, changes to the Files app and updates to Live Photos. The iPad is also expected to have a new feature where you can see multiple windows via a tab view and a feature for multitasking with two windows of the same app visible at the same time.

macOS 10.15

The latest iteration of macOS, macOS 10.15, will be unveiled at WWDC. Expected features include a new “universal apps” feature. The goal here is to allow developers to design a single app that works with a touchscreen or a mouse and trackpad based on whether it's on iOS or macOS. This universal app feature would help increase the number of apps available on Macs while making it easier for developers to create cross-platform apps.

Apple may also release some fun new emoji as well, that can be used on both iOS and macOS.
